Pitney statement on the passing of Bob Martin

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Robert Martin, a former University of ��ҹAV Regent and an active representative in Southeast ��ҹAV. I had the privilege to work with him during his term on the board and always had a deep respect for his leadership.

Bob served Juneau and the ��ҹAV Native communities in countless ways, and held many important positions over his long career. He graduated from the University of ��ҹAV in 1969 with a degree in electrical engineering. He became the Director of the Southeast Region for the ��ҹAV Department of Transportation and Public Facilities; general manager of both Tlingit Haida REA and Chugach Electric; regional roads engineer for the ��ҹAV Bureau of Indian Affairs and vice president of corporate development for Sealaska Corp. A man with the heart of a public servant, Bob was a member and past president of the ��ҹAV Native Brotherhood Camp No. 70, a member of the Denali Commission’s Energy Advisory Board, and served in so many other roles that the Juneau Chamber of Commerce honored him as Citizen of the Year in 2008.

I remember Bob as a proud and knowledgeable historian and storyteller, a passionate advocate for the university and Southeast ��ҹAV, a devoted family man and a humble public servant. My sincere condolences to his wife Ginny, their daughters Hilary and Danielle, and all who will miss his great humor and compassion.
