Arctic Encounter Symposium engages Arctic Leaders

ÎçÒ¹AV is proud to sponsor and co-host the 11th international (AES) to be held in Anchorage from July 30 - August 1. AES is the largest annual Arctic policy event in the United States, highlighting the shared interests and concerns of the United States and the global community on current and future Arctic issues.
The aim of the conference, as described in CEO Rachel Kallander’s welcome message, is “not only to uplift Arctic voices and unite a diversity of perspectives, but to catalyze meaningful action and long-term impact across the North.â€
A number of UA-affiliated students, faculty, research, and leadership will participate in the symposium as , including U.S. Ambassador for Arctic Affairs (ret.) Mike Sfraga, who was recently named interim chancellor for the University of ÎçÒ¹AV Fairbanks.
Students in the first cohort of Arctic Leadership Initiative scholars will participate and share information about UA research and Arctic leadership at a booth in the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center during the convening.
President Pitney will provide remarks highlighting themes of resilience and UA’s contributions to global Arctic expertise and workforce.
